1 Lincoln Park Mixed-Use Apartment Complex

Location: Lincoln Park, Newark, NJ
Role: Project Designer, Project Manager (in collaboration with Leadership Newark, NJNOMA)

This visionary proposal reimagines a historic Newark landmark as a bold, future-forward mixed-use development. Designed to preserve the original façade while introducing modern structural systems, the 1 Lincoln Park Mixed-Use Apartment Complex blends community, culture, and cutting-edge sustainability.

The design embraces adaptive reuse through an innovative modular system composed of repurposed shipping containers and steel framing, reinforcing Newark’s commitment to sustainability and architectural resilience. With micro-units, one-bedroom residences, public-use zones, and fitness amenities, the project is organized vertically across seven floors, promoting density without sacrificing livability.

The site features:

  • 8 micro-units (320 SF each) on the ground floor
  • 16 one-bedroom units (640 SF each) across mid-levels
  • A fitness and multi-purpose floor with panoramic views
  • A public Welcome Center Observatory with rooftop access
  • Dynamic circulation towers housing elevators and stairs
  • Integrated LED screen for public use and community engagement
  • Community-forward amenities,, including a proposed amphitheater space

Every element—from the interlocked container design to the cultural activation of the site—was conceived as a collaborative, community-driven project. Developed in partnership with Leadership Newark and NJNOMA, this proposal not only addresses urgent housing needs but also elevates the public realm as a cultural and civic hub.

Once funding is secured, NJNOMA will serve as architectural consultants, supporting project implementation and ensuring the community vision is fully realized.
