Design Studyโ€”Mixed-Use Building Proposal
Role: Design Architect | In collaboration with Blackberry Studio

This proposal for AngelaCARES presents three distinct architectural options for a new mixed-use development in the heart of Jersey Cityโ€™s revitalizing MLK corridor. Each design concept integrates ground-floor retailcommunity-based office space, and six residential units above, supporting the organization’s mission while contributing to the urban fabric of the neighborhood.

Working in collaboration with Blackberry Studio, William A. Moses served as the Lead Design Architect, responsible for developing three faรงade and massing options that explored variations in materiality, articulation, and civic presence.

Key Features Across All Proposals:

  • 4-story mixed-use building footprint
  • Street-level retail designed for flexibility and local business activation
  • Dedicated office space for AngelaCARESโ€™ outreach programs
  • Six residential units with modern layouts and ample glazing
  • Integration of ADA access and zoning compliance
  • Distinct architectural styles:
    • Option 01: Contemporary massing with wood and glass accents
    • Option 02: Bold modernist volumes with sculptural column supports
    • Option 03: A contextual brick faรงade with arched storefronts that echo the neighborhoodโ€™s historic character

This proposal is rooted in community uplift, functional programming, and design flexibilityโ€”allowing AngelaCARES to select the identity that best supports its long-term mission.
