Morris Heights Health Center
Role: Healthcare Design, PA, PD, & CA employed by Jeffrey Berman Architect
Interior Renovation + Accessibility Design | Bronx, NY
The Morris Heights Health Center project involved transforming three adjacent multi-level storefront properties into a cohesive healthcare space that meets both immediate operational needs and future programming flexibility.
Our design tackled the challenges of connecting these separate levels by adding two specially designed ramps that provide easy movement between floors, making sure it meets ADA accessibility standards and current building codes for a change of occupancy.
The layout includes open-plan workstations, private offices, consultation rooms, and collaborative zones, all carefully organized to support flow, privacy, and patient-centered care. We future-proofed the layout with adaptable zones, allowing the health center to expand services without further renovation.
The interior palette enhances both function and experience:
- Walls: A calming base of white chocolate is energized by a bold hot spice accent wall to inject warmth and vibrancy.
- Flooring: Seamless transitions between woodgrain-style resilient flooring and specialty wet-area tile support both aesthetic unity and durability.
- Millwork + Doors: Mahogany finishes ground the space with a professional tone, while custom recycled laminate casework adds a sustainable touch.
- Lighting: Contemporary suspended fixtures deliver efficient, evenly distributed lighting throughout staff and patient zones.
This project reflects a commitment to health equity, community integration, and flexible infrastructureāall within a modern and human-centered design solution.
